Argentina is regarded by igaming experts as a country with huge potential, writes BtoBet CEO Alessandro Fried. In fact, big recent strides to regulatory laws have cemented its igaming credentials.
From a regulatory point of view there remain provinces yet to allow online betting, but it seems that the country as a whole is keen on regularizing the industry – albeit on a province-by-province basis.
However, with Buenos Aires becoming the latest province to regulate its market earlier this year and adopt a strong regulatory stance, others are keen to follow suit.
The growth opportunity for the local igaming industry is further bolstered when one analyses the data relating to local infrastructure, especially in terms of internet, smartphones and e-commerce.
Argentina’s mobile penetration is way above the regional median. Whilst South America’s regional penetration in terms of mobile subscription compared to the total population indicated a penetration of 109%, Argentina registered a 135% penetration with over 60 million subscriptions for a population of almost 45 million.
Those figures stand up favourably to corresponding European statistics. And the same may also be said regarding internet penetration, which currently sits at over 41 million subscriptions, translating to a 93% penetration amongst the total population.
Once again this is a significant result, not only when compared to the penetration registered in the South American region, which sits at 73%, but also compared to Europe.
