Danish gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden has made a number of changes to its certification programme for online gaming, which will see the introduction of mandatory deposit limits from 1 January 2020.

Changes to the certification programme will also include amendments to the inspection standards for lotteries which will ‘make sure that the requirements are identical with the requirements for online casino’.

The updated frameworks now mean that self-exclusion must be an automated process, meaning that there should be the option for players to self-exclude on the gambling site itself rather than through a customer service department.

Operators must also keep player gambling data must also be kept on file for at least five years, while those holding a licence are now obliged to develop internal rules, process and staff training on responsible gambling.

The regulator has also stressed that its logo must be clearly displayed on every licensee’s site, to make clear that it has gained the necessary certification from the regulator.

The regulator detailed: “These requirements are those related to the use of the Danish Gambling Authority’s labelling scheme, the customer’s opportunity to get a statement of account, the setting of a deposit limit before being allowed to play and information to the customer about responsible gambling, including references to ROFUS and StopSpillet (StopGambling).

“No new requirements have been added, but several requirements have been moved to other sections of the certification programme to place them in the correct context. This means, among other things, that the section about information to the customer on player protection now appears clearer.

“Overall the update partly covers general changes across gambling sectors and certification areas, and partly specific amendments to requirements in the inspection standards for online casino, online betting and lotteries. The specific changes are about responsible gambling. Due to the general amendments, new versions of every document in the certification programme are available.”
