Striker will stay in Manchester due to potential changes to border restrictions on people arriving into UK who’ve recently been in China
Odion Ighalo will not go on Manchester United’s training camp in Spain over fears the coronavirus outbreak could lead to him being denied entry back into the UK.
Striker Ighalo joined United on loan from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua on Deadline Day and arrived in Manchester last week.
There are currently three cases of coronavirus – the infection which was first reported in Wuhan, China – in the UK.
United are travelling to Spain on Saturday for a warm-weather camp, but the Nigeria international will stay back in Manchester on a personal training and fitness programme amid fears his recent time in China could deny him re-entry to the UK.
A club statement said: “The club can also confirm that, due to the current situation in China, it has been decided that new signing Odion Ighalo will not travel to Spain as it is not guaranteed that he’d clear UK immigration on return should border restrictions tighten on travellers who’ve been in China within the past 14 days.”
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added: “Odion will stay in Manchester, because he arrived from China in the last 14 days.
