High school esports platform PlayVS has extended its partnership with Riot Games to support high school League of Legends.

The multi-year deal will see PlayVS operate official high school leagues and championships for League of Legends on its platform.

Riot Games wants to make League of Legends an “inclusive, general sport” and sees high school competitions as a “big part of this mission.” Registration for the spring season of the competition is open until February 14th.

Matt Birris, Scholastic Program Lead at Riot Games, discussed the partnership in a release: “PlayVS’ unique approach combines the recognition of state-sanctioned sports with an innovative technology platform, providing a great value for student competitors and a sustainable business model to ensure a stable future for high school esports. Extending our partnership with PlayVS advances our mission to establish League of Legends as a generational sport.”

PlayVS is becoming one of the more prominent online tournament platforms, raising a total of $96 million (£73.4 million) across three rounds of funding and securing partnerships with the likes of Nerd Street Gamers, Champion, and the National Federation of State High School Associations.

As per a release, the partnership with Riot Games enables PlayVS to further improve its integration with League of Legends and offer students a “better player experience” when participating in its leagues and championships.
